Flea Market Finds

This week I visited five op shops and my purchases are a bit of a mixed bag really. Usually I have little clue about the origins of things and whether it's 'good' or not. I just buy what I like and what I find useful.
Sooo this week I brought home these!

Pillow case, green corduroy, pretty white lace and some purple trim.

Music paper{LOVE}, a map, gorgeous rose wrapping.

This bag of wool pieces-I am thinking softies. I must be mad..I have SO many wips on the go. But at a bargain price of $3, I couldn't leave it on the shelf.

A cute vintage sheet.

This little frame. 50 cents! I thought I might paint it and put something else in the frame but Miss Bella adores the little bird family. It measures 5 1/2 inch in height. Cute!

Overall, a good week thrifting I think!

Colour Challenge

Although Lulu only has a handful of pages for her scrapbook, I have kept a pretty thorough record of her milestones, routines, personality, quirks etc on my family blog. Now that I have two school kids and one toddler who likes a long afternoon sleep, I am thinking there will be a bit more time to catch up on some housework scrapbooking. This week I played along with Lisa's colour challenge here. I LOVE the palette. The colours are gorgeous!

I have a lot of journaling I want to include and that always challenges me so I have tucked the journaling inside the envelope and just included the last line of my journaling on the page. The journaling came directly from my family blog and I wanted to use it just as it was, so an envelope for  a hidden  note seemed the obvious choice.

Journaling reads:

At 12 months you started taking a couple of steps here and there, mainly between furniture. Next you began standing up from crouching position, at 12 and half months you started taking a number of steps to our open arms, first 4 or 5 steps then 9 or 10. The past couple of weeks you started walking more and more, still crawling when you need to get somewhere fast but you are now walking about a lot of the time. You LOVE this new found independence.

You put everything in your mouth. You know you are not supposed to and when we take something out of your mouth, you pop it straight back in and look at us with a very cheeky face.

You eat everything now. You love your food, love to feed yourself and eat most of the things that we eat.

You have started having a big long sleep some days, instead of two shorter ones. You have started standing up in your cot and crying when I tuck you in. This only lasts for a minute and then you settle down to sleep. I LOVE when you wake up from a big sleep. You are all warm and snug and SO happy.

You say Mummum all the time now. You say Ta, wave a lot, you sing a song-make a little sound on our request for singing, you know lots of body parts and point to them upon request-eyes, nose, foot, hands, head, tummy, tongue oh you have some teeth now too. Finally you have some teeth! You have cut the bottom two teeth.

You weigh 8.8kg, still wear size 0.

You love to wrestle. If we are laying on the floor, you come crawling over SO fast and belly flop onto us. The big kids love it. Mummy and Daddy do too.

I can see SO much personality coming out now. A little glimpse of the feisty little girl you might grow to be. Love you SO much baby girl!

Gosh I really chopped and changed this page around! It ended up completely different to what  I planned (in my head) but I am happy with the end result. Do you have a plan in your head or a  sketch or does your page simply evolve as you are creating??

Cute Kids Pants

Some new pants for Lulu made from a pretty thrifted sheet.  They are the 'Cute Kids Pants' from Pip Lincolne's book 'Sew La Tea Do'. G bought it for me for Christmas. Boo was under strict instruction to 'tell Daddy.. Mummy really want's this book'.

And they are cute! I'll add a little spencer and call them jami's, I think.

And a couple more pics because I think the model is a bit cute too.

The cake

Yesterday our littlest love celebrated her 2nd birthday. I have always wanted to make a Red Velvet Cake! So I googled a recipe and raced to the supermarket yesterday-yes the morning of her birthday, if you know me, you won't be suprised about that!!

I used this recipe. I used ordinary old milk instead of buttermilk. I decided not to make four layers because I was afraid to cut the cakes.  Occasionally I mess things up and as I was pressed for time, I had no plan B in the event of a cake crisis.

I think it looked pretty great. It had the wow factor when I cut into it. It was just  a teeny, tiny bit dry.
I would recommend you make the cakes the night before-as stated in the recipe..the part that I didn't read until I was half way through making it.

It tasted great! And best of all...Lulu LOVED it!

Sketch Challenge

It's been a long time since I have been scrapbooking on a regular basis. I am still inspired to but it's just been SO long I kind of feel like I've forgotten how. When I spotted Mardi's sketch challenge here, I thought I would pull out some supplies and have a go. I was looking through some old photos last night and chose these two favourites of Bella. I know , I know..pink and green should never be seen, but I adore pink and green!
I've used some papers and embellies from one of the Little Bits of Pretty pack. The gold alphabet is a favourite!

PS Thank you for the fun sketch Mardi!

Little bits of Pretty

I've been thrifting and cutting and making some new bits and pieces for our little fundraising blog Little Bits of Pretty. Of course we can make $1500 in one day by having a bbq at Bunnings but dying doilies and playing about with gorgeous vintage bookpaper is A LOT more fun, don't you think?!

My beautiful friend came to visit recently and I put her to work with some scissors and my mother-in-law's old bedspread. Thank you Yvette! She snipped away for a few hours-happily too!

Here's a little sampling of what you will find in the shop.

100% of sales will be donated to The Children's Hospital at Westmead-a huge lifeline for our family.

Flea Market Finds

Yesterday I made a quick trip into town to have Boo's school shoes mended. The lovely Mr, politely requested I 'don't be too long'. On my way I drove past a garage sale. I slowed down and then remembered the words...
'don't be too long' ...so I continued on my way.

After I had dropped the shoes in, I made a quick stop at the oppy. I managed to find a couple of pillow cases for chopping up .50c each, a little vase that I just had to have $3.00 and a box of envelopes-the lot only $2.00 because really, you can never have too many envelopes!

A few hours later I headed out to collect the shoes and decided this time I would stop at the garage sale. Most of the stuff had been sold and I was kind of kicking myself I didn't stop earlier. I was lucky enough to pick up this lovely little plastic tray-in perfect condition and still in it's box. I love all the little compartments not to mention the colours!! ! I think it will be GREAT to serve afternoon tea in. Well worth the dollar I paid for it. For more 'Flea Market Finds', pop over to Sophie's blog.
