Untitled

School hols are off to a roaring start with a lung infection, two down with a vomiting bug and one sporting a case of head lice.
My mantra this week has been 'this too shall pass'.
Needless to say, there hasn't been a lot of making going on. I am loving this beautiful Autumn weather though. We've been blessed with sunshine but it's jeans and long tops most days. Jeans are my most favourite thing to wear. I've been doing a bit of baking and some pottering in the garden in between mothering our sickies.
Yesterday I brought a little bit of green indoors just for fun!

 Cushion from My Bearded Pigeon

The cupboard, a second hand purchase $40 if my memory serves me right. Fowler jar and cane basket become planter, both thrifted. Botanticals prints torn from a thrifted book. Wooden box, salvaged from the inlaws place. Seaglass collected once upon a time plus some spikey bits collected by Lulu.

Sometimes it can be the simplest of things that fill my creative cup-a little vignette, a bit of baking, cutting the roses or just taking a few photographs.

Are you on school holidays too?
Do you feel a bit crazy when there isn't any time for making?
How do you squash a bit of creating into a busy day?

Salvaged

While out 'at the farm' I found these rusty old pieces destined for the scrap metal man. They are SO heavy. My fatherinlaw smirked when I lugged them up to the house. I am always finding old junk to take home. Secretly, I think he loves that I love it.

These old brake drums make a perfect little home for some succulents, I think.

Are you a fellow lover of old crap treasure too? Would you have left these behind? I'd love to know if you have any other wonderful ideas for them.

Prints for Brielle

Just popping in for a little share...
I have just purchased some beautiful downloadable prints from PS I adore you. They are only $5 each and 100% of the proceeds go to a gorgeous little cancer fighter named Brielle. Today is the last day to get your hands on some. If you love art or love helping others, or both, then hurry over here.

Things I'm loving

1.The first magnolia, Little Gem as she is known.
2. Roses. Beautiful roses from our garden.
They bring me so much joy, from the cutting and arranging to the enjoying them in our home.
3. A playdough birthday cake with a quirky assortment of candles.
4. Cousins playing as only a a grown up cousin can.
5. Thrifted floral tin. It seems so familiar to me.

What are you loving right now?
What makes you happy?

A new dress

I am really enjoying some sewing time lately. I am tackling new patterns, learning the lingo and I feel like even if the instructions aren't making sense to me, I can nut it out myself. A year ago I had neither the ability or the confidence. Never in a million years did I think I would enjoy this hobbie so much. I've mentioned before that I am not a patient girl. My motherinlaw gave me a sewing machine for my 30th bday. I told her then that I couldn't sew and I wouldn't use it. She assured me I would do both. I felt like it was kind of wasted on me and now all these years later I am using both the sewing machine and the overlocker she gave me a few Christmases ago.

I recently made this little number for Lulu. It's made from a thrifted Holly Hobbie sheet. Lovely and soft, just the right amount of wear and tear. I used a new spotty fabric to make some binding for the trim and buttonholes!!! Dodge city but they are there nonetheless.

A size too big so perfect for next Summer. Great for collecting spikey things 'up the hill'.

Hooray for Friday! Have a lovely weekend.

March Snippets in April

In no particular order...
  • I became a 39 year old
  • Our big girl turned 11 and an ombre pink cake was made with success.
  • The boy lost his top front tooth
  • He is finally riding his bike with confidence and did the 5.5km ride around the lake.
  • We began a new weekly ritual of Boo cooking dinner with her daddy on Sunday nights. It's been a SO good- daddy/daughter time, independence and responsibility, trying new meals, a night off for the mama. SO good.
  • The weather is finally cooling.
  • Miss 11 enjoyed a day excursion to Canberra.
  • Lulu has settled at preschool. They told me she 'has found her niche'.
  • Enjoyed the best breakie ever! I urge you to make a batch. Yummeeee!
  • The bigs finished their season of softball as did the Mr. His team made it to the grandfinal. He played a super game as catcher.
  • Making the most of the weather with lots of outside playing, painting, walking, bike riding. We are enjoying our park morning with friends each Wednesday.
  • Fish and chips for tea on Good Friday at Grammy and Grandy's place.
  • Roses galore!

13/52

The boy yanked out his top tooth. It's been wobbly for months. 2 bux was the going rate.
I cannot even imagine how he will look with big boy teeth.

The 52 Project

Untitled

Hello! I know my blogging is rather sporadic at the moment. To be honest, I just haven't been feeling it lately. I've been busy and happy. There has been making, baking and photo taking. A spot of running! Despite the lack of blogging, I have kept up with my portrait a week for The 52 Project. Miss 11 isn't fond of featuring on mama's blog these days. I knew this time would come eventually. So herein all photographs of the big girl will be published only after her explicit approval ;)

As well as the usual goings on, I have been quite the little sewer/sewist of late. I just completed my third 'grown up' skirt for the year as well as a new dress for the little love. This week though, I've found some hand stitching to be a lovely mindless therapy while watching a bit of telly. This little cushion was inspired by the amazing Dottie Angel. It is the 'happy heart kantha cushion' project from Granny Chic.

I do love the heart and think I'll make that one too.

On the thrifty front, I found this nice, sturdy old chair at Vinnies last month.

My rotten gorgeous kids managed to break 2 of my apple glasses recently so apple glasses have been put back on the thrifting list. We have used these daily and two were accidently broken, a day apart. I am a big believer of using stuff you love though. No point keeping things for a rainy day. The hunt continues...

Have you found any lovely treasures lately? I'm linking up with Max today to show off my lonely little chair.

I hope you had a wonderful Easter break.
